It was December 2000. I had just entered high school. The Y2K scare had just ended. And there was a political mess. It was George W. Bush vs Al Gore. This election was for President of the United States. The voters cast their ballots, and it all came down to Florida voters as to whom the next president would be.
It was discovered that there were errors in the count of the ballots. And later, because the panhandle of Florida is in a different time zone, early news reports stated that the polls had closed when they were still open.
Several law suits, hundreds of lawyers, countless ballot-counter volunteers and weeks later, Al Gore congratulated George W Bush and conceded.
It was a debacle that still has some questioning it to this day.
Our nation could be completely different if that election swung a different way. The leadership of America and the patriotism that would stem just ten months later in September 2011 could have been a different environment.
Our world may be in disorder, but I am reminded that “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…” 1 Cor 14:33.
He sits up high, to see the low. And although it may seem that our world may be as a tumbleweed in south New Mexico, just blowing where the wind takes it, He controls our world and our confusion.
