A Dynamite of Change!

The inventor of BOOM, or as it’s more commonly referred to as, dynamite, was an inventor named Alfred Nobel. The same name you hear of in ceremonies in which it gives honor to the top people in their field, the Nobel Prize. In his will, he gave the majority of his estate to fund the prizes every year. This year, the prize was worth $1.45m in US dollars.

The Nobel Prize itself is elegant, but what’s more fascinating is what led Alfred Nobel to create it.

Eight years before he would pass away his brother died. French newspapers mistakenly wrote that obituary about Alfred himself. It was brutal. Because of the fact that Alfred had invented dynamite, the paper ridiculed him for creating such a dangerous thing.

As a result, he set out to change the way people would think of him after he died.

He was given a glimpse at something no one else would have the ability to see. Life; without him in it. It bothered him so bad he updated his will so that those who make significant advancements towards the betterment of humanity would be honored. It inevitably changed his legacy.

Jesus tells us in John 12, that if a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it dies alone. But if it dies, it will produce much fruit.

Given the opportunity today, what would you change? Not to see what life would be like with you gone, but how people see the “mark” that you left. What can you do today, that would change the impact you leave in the world of the people you know?
