The Wrong Wright Flight

The inventors of the first successful flight are Orville & Wilbur Wright. Born in Ohio, they took flight in North Carolina.  Although they did not invent the airplane, they did make it flyable.

They wanted to perfect flight and so they went to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There were two benefits for experimenting there.  The first, that it was very windy there. The second reason was that there was sand on the beach for softened landing (or crashing).
On this day in 1903 they tested it. I’m sure they felt ready. I bet they were excited. Normally, Wilbur would go first. Historians believe it was because he was the older brother and wanted to protect Orville. But on this day, they flipped a coin. Wilbur still won and took flight. It lasted for 3 seconds before being damaged.
Three days later, after repairing the flyer, they achieved four “non-fail” flights!
It took time to get the results they wanted. Mistakes were made but so were repairs. But they were determined to reach their dream and did what had to be done. Even though flight wasn’t successful on December 14, 1903, Wilbur still called it a “partial success”.
God comforted us in Isaiah 41 by saying, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God”
Make whatever repairs you need to and go at it again! Their failures are in history, but their successes are mottos on two states license plates, etched in two state quarters and nearly everyone is a benefactor of what they made possible. What can you make possible?
